SSRS reporting for financial services

The standard reports that come with most financial software get you about 80% of the way. The other 20% is where your clients actually have questions. CSSI builds custom SSRS reports that pull the right data, format it the way your clients expect, and run on schedule without manual intervention.

  • Custom reports: household, portfolio, performance, equity, fixed income, risk
  • Built on SQL Server Reporting Services with your existing data
  • Automated scheduling and delivery to reduce manual work

Who this is for

Firms that need reports their current software does not produce out of the box. If you are exporting data to Excel and manually building client reports every quarter, this is the fix.

Firms spending hours on manual report assembly

If your operations team exports data, pastes it into templates, and formats reports by hand every quarter, custom SSRS reports can automate most of that process.

Firms that need reports their software cannot produce

The default reports in APX and Axys cover the basics. When a client asks for something specific, or your compliance team needs a custom view, SSRS lets you build exactly what is needed.

Reports we build

We have built hundreds of custom reports for advisory firms. These are the categories that come up most often.

Household overview

Aggregated view across all accounts in a household. Holdings, allocation, and performance in one report.

Portfolio overview

Account-level detail with positions, market values, cost basis, and sector breakdowns.

Performance overview

Time-weighted and money-weighted returns by account, composite, or household. Multiple time periods.

Equity overview

Equity-specific holdings with sector allocation, geographic exposure, and individual position detail.

Fixed income overview

Bond holdings with maturity schedules, duration, credit quality, and yield analysis.

Risk overview

Risk metrics at the portfolio or household level. Concentration, volatility, and drawdown analysis.

How a report project works

We start with what you need the report to show, build it, and refine it until it matches. Most custom reports go from spec to production in a few weeks.

  1. Define the requirements. What data, what layout, what filters, what delivery format. We work from examples when you have them.
  2. Build and iterate. We build the report, share a draft, and refine based on your feedback. Usually two or three rounds.
  3. Test with real data. We run the report against your actual data to make sure the numbers are right and performance is acceptable.
  4. Deploy and schedule. The report goes into production. If it should run on a schedule, we configure that too.

Send us an example of what you need, or describe the data and layout. We will tell you what it takes to build it and how long it will take.

FAQ

Do we need to use APX or Axys for SSRS reports?

SSRS works with any SQL Server data source. Most of our clients use APX or Axys, but we can build reports from other databases too.

Can you convert our existing Excel reports to SSRS?

Yes. If you have Excel-based reports that your team builds manually, we can usually replicate the layout and logic in SSRS so it runs automatically.

How long does a custom report take to build?

Simple reports take a week or two. More complex reports with multiple data sources or conditional logic can take three to four weeks. We scope it upfront.

Can reports be scheduled to run automatically?

Yes. SSRS supports scheduled report generation and delivery. We can configure reports to run daily, weekly, monthly, or on whatever schedule your firm needs.
